While numerous people have put together a weblog as a personal journal to recount their feelings, experiences and just about most things they want to write about, there are also a growing number of individuals who are maintaining blogs as a viable source of revenue. In fact most internet marketers keep their own blogs and have discussed tricks on how to improve blog traffic.

If you think about it, writing a blog without anyone bothering to read up the items defeats the goal of creating a blog in the first place. Even if you have an excellent design to attract visitors, it takes additional efforts to increase blog traffic since you pretty much have to compete with millions of other blogs out there.

Among the best and most powerful ways to increase blog traffic is through the use of Twitter. If you do not have an account, it is highly advisable that you should get one so you can tweet other people and convince them to read your blog posts and remark on those posts. Quite naturally, if you have posted an interesting link, there is a great chance people will click on it and be redirected to your blog, and thereby bringing in further traffic. The same thing goes for you as a reader looking to participate on a blog by making comments. Usually, a community of network is created in Twitter where folks follow one another’s post, keep tabs with the most current blog buzz and comment. This means you can look into the probability of creating a circle of bloggers or tweeters that actively interacts. So the more you comment on their posts, the more motivated they are to do the same for you.

You can also think about joining some forums and get involved in the discussions. This may demand a bit of finesse since you cannot just show up and request others to visit your blog. You will need to establish your presence, casually slip links to your blog to corresponding posts or perhaps include the URL in your forum signature.

Another similarly efficient idea is to set up RSS feeds and install it on your blog site. With the new content it is rolling out, spiders are bound to crawl and index your pages. You can also opt to advertise your site in your email signatures and business cards. This is specially useful if your blog features specific products and services. Nowadays, people prefer looking up a specific business on the internet as it becomes supremely practical.

Lastly, you can likewise look at submitting your content to main directories to efficiently increase blog traffic, particularly for people who are looking up for particular details you are presenting in your site. Be sure to produce at least 300-500 words articles to be sure it can contribute to extra traffic.

Do you want to increase your blog’s traffic? I can see a lot of hands, waving like crazy.

Isn’t it what we want in the first place? Since you want to achieve high exposure for your blog, make sure that you do some online effort to make it happen.

Yes, that’s right. But I tell you, that involves writing, something that a lot of bloggers are challenged to do. If you want to drive traffic to your blogs but does not have that much time to write those promotional articles, here’s five tips on how to come up with unique articles for quick blog traffic, without sweating of course.

Hire a professional writer online

Of course, this involves money. But remember this, you are only paying them for their talent and time. Make use of their expertise to work to your advantage. You can check out a lot of blog writers to do the work for you, and of course you have the liberty to check their sample output first to make sure that they will deliver based on your expectations. Whether you need a blog writer, a copywriter or an article writer it doesn’t matter, just make sure that you will check their credentials and sample works before you virtually inked the deal.

Open your blog for Guest Posters

A barter deal with guest posters won’t hurt since you are aiming to increase your blog’s traffic. It’s like sharing your traffic, something that will be both beneficial on you and the guest poster. This can be done without shelling out your hard earned money and will foster good online relationships with other bloggers.

Write a 101 list

Who doesn’t like a 101 list? This will only involve you to collect the details in number form. Short, simple and straight to the point. Who doesn’t want that in a blog article right?

Collect other people’s comments and suggestions, ethically

This is really easy, make sure that the purpose for collecting their comments and or suggestions is clear to prevent people from thinking that this is a way to spam them and encourage them to participate on your initiative.

Your suggestions

This is where I would ask for your input so we can help each other in the process. Share your related best practices here. What do you have in mind?

Forum posting is still a popular way to bring in traffic to your blog or any site you are maintaining. However it requires a bit more effort because you have to create a good presence on the forum you are frequenting.

For example, you can’t just join a forum and start pasting links to your blog with every forum post that you make. Because for most forums, the administrators require that you first reach a certain number of posts before you can past live links or even put a link to your site as part of your signature.

In short, you have to be really active in the forums and create a relationship with the other users. Only then can you start pasting your own links. Another benefit for this is if you keep on providing good and informative answers, people will start to see you as an expert in your field. Naturally, they will be interested to read more about you so they will click through to your blog.

There are other benefits of being an active member in any forum but these are the primary ones.

Writing dozens, hundreds or even thousands of articles and making them available for distribution is one of the best ways to ensure that your website gets surges in traffic over the long-haul. Why? Let me explain:

When you put your articles into distribution (meaning you submit them to ezine publishers and the article sites that ezine publishers visit for fresh content), you increase your chances of your article getting picked up as supplemental content by ezine publishers. They take your article and send it to their email newsletter membership or add it to their website.

Why would you give them your article for free? Heck, you’re a paid expert, right?

The answer is because good ezine publishers will leave your article in tact and provide you with an active link back to your website. When they send your article to their list, you can expect an immediate surge in traffic. Most of the time, you won’t know who sent your article to their list, but you will see spikes throughout the year if your articles are quality.

There is another technical reason that you may get surges in web traffic from your articles: Every time your article is reprinted on a website with an active link to your website, your articles help you increase link popularity which may elevate your rank with the major search engines. More rank means more natural traffic to your site.

Having worked with thousands of article authors and tens of thousands of articles, I can tell you that there are clearly two types of EzineArticles:

Ezine Articles Type I – Designed for mass distribution:

How can you setup your article to be picked up by the largest number of potential ezine publishers? Easy: Write 250-500 word articles that are easy to read, bullet points and lists, and only 1 or 2 links in the resource box below the article (and never more than 2). You also don’t want to pitch affiliate programs with your links as ezine publishers frown on this and won’t pick up your article. Lastly, don’t lace your article with heavy HTML code or HTML tables or anything complex. Lowest common denominator (plain text) rules.

Bottom line: The easier you make it for ezine publishers to use your article, the higher your distribution rate. Your goal is increased distribution and exposure.

Ezine Articles Type II – Designed for value only from originating site.

How can you limit distribution and only get value from the article directories that you submit your articles to? Easy: Include anchor text links instead of full http:// URL’s and bloat it up with HTML garbage and cute HTML code that adds value to the article but would make any ezine publisher cringe because they can’t work your heavy article into their ezine template.

As you can guess, I favor “Ezine Articles Type I” authors as they really “get it.” Type II article authors are missing out on the viral nature of article distribution.

Tip: If you’re going to be a “Type II” article author, at least include one http:// URL in your resource box instead of only anchored text links. This way your article will still generate an active link for ezine publishers who might use your article to their text-based email newsletter audience.

Crank Up The Traffic:

Don’t be a 1-trick article author and only post 1 article to 1 site and then call it a day. If you want to crank up the traffic, you’ve got to crank up the quantity of quality articles you put into distribution. Only the rare article author hits the jackpot with tens or hundreds of thousands of views to their article while the greater majority needs tens, hundreds or even thousands of articles to do the same traffic.

Set a goal to write 4 articles at a time, 250-500 words each and submit them to ezine publishers from your core niche along with submitting them to websites that archive fresh ezine articles daily. It is possible to crank out 100-500 new articles per year for most authors in their spare time. Those who say it’s impossible are usually passed up by those of us who know it’s possible.

There is no doubt that there is an article writing labor investment here, but the payoffs are in surges in traffic to your website this year many years to come without having to buy the traffic. Consider it an investment in building your websites’s foundational traffic-future.

For many years, article marketing has been used as an effective means to promote websites and improve blog traffic. Thousands of online article diretory sites allow website owners to submit articles and target web surfers. But only a few of them have high search engine rankings and ability to draw great web traffic.

An expertly written article can be easily positioned high in Google, Yahoo! and other search engines. On the other hand, a poorly written article will fail in terms of gaining attention of new visitors to your blog or site. But if you really want to make good use of your article as a selling strategy, you should see to it that it is informative and does not sound as a sales pitch.

People nowadays are no longer easily duped. They will easily go about clicking the back button and going to another site if they feel that they are reading uninformative, sales pitch style content. Because web users are becoming wiser and wiser, this strategy has become an important determinant of the success or failure of your article marketing strategies.

When people can’t easily find what they need to know when reading sales copy on any site or blog, they will not buy your products either. On the other hand, an expertly written piece can make your website stand out by offering information that can be utilized in a productive manner. If your site’s reader is certain that you are trying to assist them and have her best interests in mind, they will surely click your link and perhaps purchase your product.

Whenever you write articles to increase web traffic, focus on effective use of keywords. Together with SEO, you also make use an article spinner. This allows you to submit a number of articles to different article directories without any danger of getting penalized for duplicating contents. In addition to search engines, you can also submit your articles to ezines, blogs, and newsletters. All these are effective sources of reaching potential customers and improve your online presence without spending too much money.

Linkbating is really not a new concept and it has for years been used by expert bloggers and internet marketers to gain additional traffic to their blogs or websites. Linkbait is simply content written particularly to make plenty of interest for others to willingly create links back to your website. In simple words linkbaiting is all about encouraging others to link back to your web site.

Google and the other search engines also gives importance to the links for them to understand the page rank of a site. So your website is directly related to the quality backlinks of your site
The the end purpose of linkbaiting is to offer something interesting and mentionable that other sites will link to your website willingly.

A number of good link baiting strategies are:

1. Create a simple free tool or free template for people in your category to use, and spread it, for instance a script that checks a site’s rankings in Google, Yahoo and MSN.

2. Write some reviews. If your review is well-written and of high quality, you will be noticed and surely it will pay you in long run.

3. Write persuasive content : Nothing can bring you more incoming links than compelling content. Write content that people would like to read and recommend to their own visitors. This can be done by writing original research, unique posts, making people think, writing posts that teach new things, writing relevant postings, publish quality links.

4. Humor: Nothing is like writing something which will enlighten someone’s day, so if you have some funny pictures , humorous stories, or anything else that will generate laughter it could be posted on your site or blog. Doesn’t matter whether it relates to your company’s business or not. Once people have clicked to your humor page, they will probably stay and look around a bit.

5. Start a contest or a game: organize some contests or games, this will surely drive traffic to your website.

6. Be controversial.: A blog entry which has contradictory opinions can lead to intense debates. It will surely stir things up as readers alert others to what you have to say and then they will visit your blog.

7. Write sensational posts: If a client was saved because she was using your security system in his house, write an article about it. If your client’s business is increased dramatically after taking your SEO services then publish it.

Some web site managers place their web site links in signature lines, vainly hoping that it will increase traffic to their web site. Unfortunately, even if you create good posts, people sometimes disregard the signature lines. Therefore, if you like to make these backlinks more useful when it comes to gaining more blog traffic, you will need to find some means to draw attention to your signature line.

There are times the simplest way to get people to click on your signature line is to ask them to do so. For example, if you are commenting in a forum, you can simply ask people to read your site for extra information. If people are interested in what you are telling them, there are chances that they might want to click through to your site. Aside from getting extra blog traffic, you can also have a better chance of employing popovers and other strategies to better increase your site’s conversion.

Today, a number of website owners also try to gain more blog traffic by submitting to bookmark directories. To better understand and to see why this does not work, simply ask yourself how many times you visit sites like this when looking for information. Chance are, when you want to know a subject, you just use one search engine, or visit your favorite article directory. As a result, if you are interested in gaining additional blog traffic, working with bookmark sites may not be beneficial to you. There are instances, if the blog is untrustworthy, you may even find your blog banned by the search engines.

In other words, getting additional blog traffic is about figuring out where people will visit to find information similar to what you are giving on your blog. Based on your niche, those answers can be very different. For example, if you want to sell electronics, people may just automatically go to eBay. On the other hand, if you are interested in selling herbal remedies, it can be a much better strategy if you build backlinks through established article directories. While it may take some effort to find out where your target audience is most probably emanating, you will find it well worth the effort.

Many people use their blogs as a fun way to make a little extra money. If this is you, you will not want to be spending money to drive traffic to your website. One of the best ways to get free traffic to your site is to offer something that everyone wants, or to do some task for people to save them time and money.

A great service to offer your readers is a review of something. If you are interested in blogging, why not offer a review of quality blog sites for your readers? Google loves review sites so you will rank well. You are offering to save your readers time by checking out the best sites. You also get your site mentioned on these sites if you have the trackback feature of WordPress turned on. This is great free publicity for your site as all the readers of the quality blogs will see your site’s address.

There is some debate over whether to turn on no-follow, because Google doesn’t like them, or to leave them on, because the amount of traffic you get as a quality site cancels out any drawbacks. You could try testing this, if you’re interested in the subject. You could let everyone know your findings and get even more free traffic for your site.

As you have a blog, it is a good start to review blog sites. You should stick to the theme of your blog. For example if your blog were about gardening, you would review gardening blogs. It is a good idea to be honest but if you can’t say anything good about a blog, it is probably better not to include it at all, rather than to write a negative review. After all, you are recommending good sites or your readers. Make sure you send a copy of your review to the blog owner. If you are honest about their site, they will often put a free link in one of their articles, back to your site.

After you have investigated all the best blog sites, you could possibly go on to review books, websites or movies related to your topic. A review of other blogs, websites or any information, related to your topic of interest is an excellent way of getting lots of free traffic and boosting your ranking in the search engines. It also helps others to find good quality sites, so they will come to see you as the expert in your field, and it costs you nothing.

Posting on other people’s websites? You may think this is crazy, especially if you hardly have enough time to keep your own blog up-to-date. But if you want in on one of the biggest traffic generation secrets, read on for a VERY good reason why you should start getting your smiling mug (and links) on other people’s websites too.

Take a good look at some of the more popular blogs. No doubt you’ll notice that they have strings of blog comments, and that these comments usually come with hyperlinked names? And guess where those hyperlinks go… To the commenter’s blog or website.

And go ahead and look at some sales pages as well. You can just go to Clickbank, or you can open some of those emails you probably have in your inbox where people urge you to go to someone’s website for the deal of the decade.

You’ll notice quickly (if you don’t know already) that sales pages are filled with testimonials, and (almost) that each one of them has a link as well, or at least the name of the website.

Those comments and testimonials have been left by very smart marketers. They know the traffic generation secrets that make people in the know leave comments and testimonials: backlinks and more visitors.

Backlinks aren’t as sure a thing as you might want to hope for. The thing is that most WordPress blogs are set up to make links nofollow by default. That’s unfortunate for you, but I guess it will discourage spammers. Still… sometimes you may get lucky.

In fact, you can check whether or not your link will be a dofollow or a nofollow link: Just control–click on the name of the person who posted the comment and you’ll get a list of properties. Among them, there will be one that indicates whether the link is follow or nofollow.

Most blogs make those links nofollow, so the search engine spiders will likely disregard that link as they determine how many back links a particular site may have. Still, if the blog is reasonably popular and you think you’ll find yourself in good company, go ahead and post a comment anyway. Because back links aren’t the only reason to leave comments.

And what about sales pages? Only give testimonials for products you can truly stand behind. Because sooner or later — and usually sooner — you’ll have to do just that.

And when you do, you’ll get free advertising, and depending on the popularity of the product, these traffic generation secrets can generate quite a bit of free traffic to your website.

Here are the top 10 ways I used to build up my own personal traffic on my blog websites. Take the time to learn each way effectively and you will be on your way with consistency and perseverance.

#1 – Great Content – This is number one for a reason. This is the reason people come to look at your site, not for the fancy graphics or the fact that you are great at doing 10 posts a day. I recommend having 5 – 10 blog article posts that are 300-1000 words , have pictures, perhaps video and that are targeted for a certain market. This leads me to the second one.

#2 – Keyword Research – You need to find terms that have 200+ searches a month. Use Google’s keyword tool to find terms in your niche. Make sure it’s the exact term and not broad. Also go to Google search and type in this : intitle:”keyword” . This will give you the number of pages that are optimized for that keyword. Usually you want less than 1000; if you are very good at SEO, no more than 2500. Next, write your article about this keyword term. After writing it, go back and make sure you have that keyword term in the title and header tags and in the content a couple times. Usually around 3-7% of all the words on your page.

#3 – Forums – Get on forums in your niche and communicate! Find forums that are do follow such as warriorforum and digital point forums and have a signature with your blog. From time to time, post up your latest blog post if it’s relevant and start up a conversation in forum.

#4 – Article Writing – Take your blog posts, and write an article around that keyword. Get them up on article websites and link back to your site with a keyword you are ranking for on Google. An example, is this article. Although this content is not on website, it will link back to my blog that has posts related to the subject of blog traffic.

#5 – Social Media – Connect with people in your niche on Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace. I have driven a ton of traffic from these sites.

#6 – PPC - If you have monetized your blog, you should be able to use PPC to drive traffic and turn a profit. This is only for the very advanced bloggers.

#7 – Solo Ad – This is also a pay ad that costs from $5 – $100 and will allow you to submit an email message to their email list. Again, learn how to do it first before throwing your money away.

#8 – Blogs – Post on other people’s blog and they will likely look at yours.

#9 – Social Bookmarking – Digg, Mixx, Propeller, Stumble This, Digg, and Blink! Get on there and post up your site. You will find mine there! This also helps you in the search engine rankings.

#10 – Ping and Search Engine Submission – Use pingoat.com and submit your blog to as many blog engines are search engines as possible.

OK, hope this helps to get started. Take a look at some of my articles for more blog traffic tips.
